TYPES OF COVERAGE
$.60 PER POUND PER ARTICLE: This free coverage is limited by the weight more than the value of the damaged item. If you have this coverage, each INDIVIDUAL item is covered up to the fair market value of the item, up to a MAXIMUM of $.60 times the weight of the individual item. Thus, a 100 pound item is covered up to a maximum of $60.00, but a 10 pound item is covered only up to $6.00. Containerized items are covered up to $.60 per pound of the carton, not just the individual item weight within the carton.
DEPRECIATED COST COVERAGE: This style of coverage provides for replacement cost value MINUS depreciation - a deduction based upon the age of the item. As a general rule of thumb, depreciation is 10% of the replacement value per year deducted. The Industry Weights and Depreciation Schedules published by the American Movers Conference are used for claim settlement purposes. unless other values are established by appraisal or other agreed upon methods.
REPLACEMENT COST COVERAGE: This style covers your shipment's individual items up to the replacement value of the damaged or loss item. No deduction for depreciation is taken. Carriers may, though, in all coverages, REPAIR, REPLACE WITH LIKE KIND, OR SETTLE BASED UPON REPLACEMENT VALUE, whichever is lower.
